Abstract

In the context of climate change and the depletion of fossil resources, the use of biobased materials such as wood promotes the long-term sequestration of atmospheric carbon and has attracted renewed societal interest. However, wood is highly sensitive to moisture and must be protected against degrading organisms, particularly fungi and insects, especially in outdoor applications. Environmental concerns and adverse effects on human health have led regulatory policies to become increasingly restrictive regarding biocidal products, which are still widely used for wood protection.
